Brainstorm HPCD Workshop 2

Brainstorm HPCD Workshop | Feb. 10-12, 2015 | The Westin Park Central – Dallas, TX

The second Brainstorm HPCD workshop is part of a community-driven effort to gather comprehensive information on provisioning models and methods for providing computing and data capability, resources and services. The workshop will explore the benefits and detriments of alternative roles of private industry, NSF centers, other federal facilities, and local/campus/regional facilities to support of current and new science workflows, computational requirements and data management. The workshop will address how resources and services are provided to scientists, how they are managed and how they are supported. Finally, the workshop will evaluate alternatives for sustaining longer term resource and service provisioning processes.

Along with application leaders confronting diverse computing and analysis challenges, attendees will include members from industry and government with expertise in algorithms, computer system architecture, and applications.

We are asking each attendee to submit a two-page position paper outlining a key issue. Send your position papers to brainstorm@ncsa.illinois.edu.  These position papers will be posted to the workshop website so that all workshop participants can read them in advance.

At the workshop we will work to take the individual position papers and formulate consistent input and information for the NRC committee and NSF. A report summarizing the discussion and findings will be produced after the workshop and submitted to the NRC Committee and NSF along with the individual position papers. To be most impactful, this report is needed by the end of February 2015.

To register for the workshop, complete this short webform.  The organizing committee has arranged to pay for lodging and meals during the workshop for invited attendees. We have limited funding and will be able to partially cover transportation (e.g. airfare, taxi, etc. up to $750).
